March On! ...the history of the

Toronto Optimists Drum & Bugle Corps

Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Robin Weatherstone

Corps: Trafalgar Police Boys Band, Preston Scout House Band, Toronto Optimists

1942 — December 2018

Robin's first drum corps was the Trafalgar Police Boys Band (later, they became the Patrolmen). During 1959 and 1960, he marched with the Preston Scout House Band and, in 1961, he joined The Optimists, playing Baritone. Robin stayed with the Optimists until he aged out at the end of 1963.

During the 1963/64 winter season, the Optimists created a mini-corps that performed a drill on an arena floor. Their repertoire included songs played by The Optimists as well as pieces played by the top US corps. Robin played Baritone in the small corps and was the main individual responsible for creating it. Robin is survived by his wife, actress Lally Cadeau, and three children: Sara, Christopher and Bennet.
